Eagles win hockey tournament


The Avon Eagle ice hockey team took first place in the Walter F. Ehrnfelt Memorial high school hockey tournament Blue Division over the past weekend with wins over Upper Arlington 3-1, St. Charles 5-3, Gahanna Lincoln 5-2, and Olentangy Liberty 2-1 in the championship game.
Freshman Eric Novakovic was named tournament MVP. Novakovic lead the team with seven goals. Tyler Lance scored three goals, Matt Tomlin added two goals and Cody Schroeder, Jake Uhas, and Neal Novotny each scored once. Kory Carter was solid in goal for the Eagles with 58 total saves over the weekend.
The team is currently 9-6-2 with three games left prior to heading into the State Tournament. The Eagles play next on Saturday, January 22 at 6:00 pm at the North Olmsted Recreation Center.
