Bay swimming doing well
Bay head coach Andy Fleck is pleased with how his team is performing this season.
"We are about a month ahead of schedule," Fleck said.
The girls team is 7-1 with just a close five point loss to Magnificat. After the loss, Bay won the Lakewood Relays and the Eagle Open, beat WSC rival Rocky River and produced 3 of the top 4 finishers at the EC Pentathlon.
Freshman Elizabeth Auckley has broken school records in the 100 Fly and 100 Back, while the girls have set and re-set several relays records at NORC this season.
Many girls have qualified and will attend this weekend’s Northeast Classic meet, a state meet pre-view held at Canton McKinley.
Capt’s Shannon O’Brien and Maureen Piccirilli have PR’d in the 500 this week both nearing 6:00. (6:06 and 5:58)
Freshmen Alyssa Rossi, Hallie Bechtel, Marlee Berlan and Colleen Farley have all been contriubuting more and more, becoming solid scorers for the team. Berlan was voted the WSC swimmer of the week for her 4 wins against Avon/Firelands on Friday night.
While the boys team hasn't had the success of the girls, Fleck is proud of them
"Despite a less than ideal record, (4-4) the boys are working hard and swimming well," Fleck said. "Most, if not all are swimming times that meet or exceed their sectional times for a year ago. Matt Seabold (SR) set a PR of 5:48 in the 500 free at Fairview, while SR’s Adam Figliuzzi and Mike Sorge, along with brothers Brogan and Duncan MacMillan swam their fastest time in the 200 Medley relay 1:52.96. Sorge, Figluzzi and Duncan all had solid showings at the EC Pentathlon too. Matt Brant set a PR in the 100 free and breast (101 and 115) Boys are looking forward to good meet with EC on 1/22 and WSC Championships on 1/29. The boys have cruised to 2nd place in the WSC, by beating Fairview, Firelands and Avon, but losing to River."
The girls (7-1) are still on a roll, after rebounding from 5 point loss to Magnificat to
