Baseball Player of the Week nominees

Amherst head coach Al McConihe nominated Kyle Hagerich. Kyle was 7 for 15 with a double, a home run, 4 runs scored and 5 RBI. Kyle is batting .350 for the season and leads the Comets in RBI.

Avon head coach Frank DeSmit nominated junior pitcher Matt Eckhardt. Matt was instrumental in all three of Avon’s wins last week. He hit a clutch double against Vermilion in extra innings. He threw a 1-hitter against Midview and had Avon’s only hit and run in the win. He was 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI against Firelands. For the year he is hitting. .500 with 11 RBI. On the mound he is 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA.

Clearview coach Dennis Pihlbald nominated Armando Torres and Ian Mezlak. Armando was 7 for 12 for the week with 7 RBI, a double, a triple and a home run. He allowed no earned runs to pick up a win against Keystone with 14 strikeouts. Ian was 7 for 14 with 6 RBI, a double, a triple and home run.

Firelands coach Ted Busch nominated sophomore shortstop Joe San Felippo. Joe was 6 for 13 with two doubles a grand slam home run against Rocky River that won the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. San Felippo is hitting .427 with 12 RBI and 10 runs scored.

Western Reserve head coach Greg Mullins nominated Drake Grine. Drake was 11 for 13 with 8 singles, a double and a grand slam. He had 6 RBI and two intentional walks.
