Baseball Player of the Week nominees
Here are the nominees for Morning Journal baseball player of the week. The winner will be revealed in Friday’s Edge.
Amherst head coach Al McConihe nominated senior Tyler Bires. Tyler pitched a 1-hit shutout against Westlake with 6 strikeouts. He is 2-0 this season with a 0.87 ERA. Bires was 6-15 for the week. He had 5 doubles, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. He is hitting .422
Midview coach John Justice nominated senior Jake Stracesnky. Jake tossed nine shutout innings on the week. He had a complete game win against Bay and save against Vermilion. Jake is 2-0 on the season with 1.08 ERA. He was also 5 for 9 last week.
Sandusky head coach Matt Martin nominated Trey Keegan. Trey was 3 for 6 with 4 including a 3 run HR against Amherst. He stole 3 bases and threw out 3 three opposing base stealers. He also made his varsity pitching debut where in 3 innings of work he struck out nine.
Also considered: Amherst senior shortstop Austin Walts. Austin was 7-14 with a triple and 2 doubles. He is hitting .438 for the season.
