Avon swimmers keep dropping times
Over the weekend Avon had two swim meets.
On Friday, the Eagles celebrated Senior Night with two wins over Fairview. The girls won 138-46, and the boys won 94-87.
Several swimmers had best times. In the 200 Free was Wyatt Miller and Alex Johnson, Tudor Chesaru in his 200 IM, Amelia Garrison, Frances Gates, Sara Yeagley, Sam Squillante, Chris Pulice in their 50 Free, Tudor Chesaru in his 100 Fly, Frances Gates, Sam Kiessling, Allison Sandoval, Claire Staveski, Sam Umek, Emily Ferenc, Colin Fogarty, Nick Kugler and Elliot Runge in the 100 Free.
All of the swimmers in the 500 Free dropped time (Wyatt Miller, Nick Kugler, Katie Schlather, Maddy Michelich, Alyssa Sauter) Colin Fogarty and Nick Gatsos in the 100 Back, Rachel Kollmann, Alyssa Sauter, and Sam Squillante in the 100 breast. Elliot Runge set a new school record in the 100 Free.
On Saturday the swim team swam against Margaretta and Norwalk St. Paul. Avon girls won against Norwalk, but fell to Margaretta. Avon boys fell to both Margaretta and Norwalk St. Paul.
The following swimmers had achieved best times on Saturday. Alyssa Sauter, Rachel Wolchko, and Sam Squillante in the 200 Free, Leah LaFarciola and Alex Johnson in the 200 IM, Stephanie Knezevic, Amelia Garrison, and Frances Gates in the 50 free, Stephanie Knezevic and Cody Katanik in the 100 Fly, Katie Schlather, Alyssa Sauter, Rachel Kollmann, Mara Young, and Olivia Kociubuk in the 100 Free, Maddy Michelich in the 100 Back, and Chris Pulice in the 100 Breast.
Alex Johnson set a new school record in his 1 meter Diving, and Elliot Runge set his second new school record of the weekend in the 500 Free.
Coach Sarah Anders particularly wanted to highlight two swimmers.
"Alyssa Sauter is a freshman who has had an amazing first year," Anders said. "She has dropped 25 seconds in her 500 free, and had a personal best in her 500 free against Rocky River on Tuesday and then again on Friday against Fairview dropping 2 more seconds to a 6:01.40.. She also had a personal best in the 100 breast (1:21 )against Rocky River. She is always at the ends of the lanes cheering and is really proving to be an asset to the team."
"Colin Fogarty is a sophomore who has had 2 back to back outstanding meets," Anders said. "Against Rocky River he had a personal best of 1:00.07 in the 100 free and then on Friday against Rocky River he was apart of our meet winning 400 Free Relay and went a 57.29. He also swam his personal best 100 back time against Fairview. He is truly an asset to the team."
